Hi
Welcome to my portfolio website! My name is Jan Barczewski. I'm an Informatics engineer, currently pursuing a master's degree and aspiring to become a professional software developer. My main fields of interest are web development, microservices, microcontrollers, and AI. This page serves as a business card, showcasing my experience, projects, and skills.
About me
I've always been interested in computers for as long as I can remember. It all started with playing games and later evolved into an interest in how they actually work, what new things are being developed and a desire to program them myself.
That's why I've decided to study Informatics at Gdańsk University of Technology, where I live. I've obtained an Engineering degree with honors (GPA 4.58 🤓), and I am currently pursuing a Master of Engineering degree in the same field. My specialty of choice is High-Performance Computing and Computational Intelligence. Overall, I feel that these studies have given me a solid foundation for future work in software development, regardless of the career path I choose. I've learned many things that will be valuable in my professional life and have also developed important soft skills.
I've gained my first experience in the IT sector during my internship at Intel, where I worked as a Graphics Software Development Intern in the PreSi CI Team. I've learned a lot about test automation, CI/CD processes, industry-standard tools, and the importance of teamwork. I've also had the opportunity to work on a real project with people from different countries, which was a great experience.

My projects

Sky is the limit
2025
A web application for browsing and booking flights, built using a microservice architecture. The backend was developed with ASP.NET, and the frontend was implemented using the Angular framework. This was a group project, and my responsibilities included developing several microservices, configuring the system, and deploying it on a Docker Swarm cluster.

Anti-theft GPS system for cyclists
2024
Engineering Graduation Project – The goal of this project was to develop a system that helps prevent bicycle theft and enables remote location tracking. The solution consists of two main components: a device mounted on the bike and a mobile application. My role was to design, build, and program the device. I used a Raspberry Pi Zero as the core hardware, and the software was developed in Python.

Jakarta EE project
2024
A simple CRUD application written in Java, that allows user to manage authors and their books. It was built on the Jakarta EE platform. The solution uses technologies such as: Jakarta Persistence for data access, EJB for business logic, JAX-RS for RESTful services, and Jakarta Server Faces for the user interface.
